Another myth in our series from Your Money God’s Way by Amie Streater is one that has always bothered me. It seems as though Christians are often more gullible than the general population. Christians tend to be more trusting of others because of our desire to expect the best out of everyone.
I used to get so frustrated listening to Christian radio. It seemed like most of the commercials were for “get rich quick” schemes or “healthy living” products. If these things were so great why were they only being marketed to such a small group of people?
Unfortunately even within Christian circles there are people taking advantage of others. Some are more innocent than others such as people who get into certain multi-level marketing programs which don’t necessarily hurt them or drain them that much financially. Others are much more devious. Some people have been fleeced of their life savings and gone tens of thousands in debt helping out a “pastor” or tv personality.
We do need to have a trusting spirit, but we should always consider things prayerfully, seek the counsel of others, and use our God given intelligence to research any opportunity thoroughly. Don’t become a victim of some unscrupulous person. If they have an honest deal, they won’t mind you spending time to pray and research the situation first.
